April 2010: Welcome Gathering for Spring Newcomers

In Japan, April marks the start of new academic year. And, new Cambodian student(s) are scheduled to come to Nagoya, keeping the number of Cambodian students in Nagoya above 30.

On 3rd April 2010, CSAN organized a welcome gathering for 4 newcomers who had just arrived Nagoya on 2nd April. They were permitted to stay in Yamate Dormitory, a newly built dormitory in 2009, behind Omeikan Dormitory, and approximately 20- minute walk from Nagoya Uni.

The newcomers including Ms. Dysi Nory, Mr. Seng Vanmaren, Mr. Ven Seyhah, and Mr. Yi Rosa, are granted Monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarship. Mr. Maren was registered as a research student at Graduate School of International Development (GSID), while the other three had to take 6-month Japanese intensive courses at Education Centre for International Students (ECIS), prior to their entrance to GSID as research students starting from October 2010.

Although they had not been accustomed to the new environment, and would be occupied with their academic lives, they had already shown us their enthusiasm in contributing to the better community of CSAN. For instance, three of them volunteered to practice performance for the upcoming Khmer New Year celebration at Nagoya Uni. Mr. Rosa and Mr. Seyhah toke part in Chai Yam team, and Nory performed Color of the Day Show. Their contribution is a generator to light up the hope for CSAN in its bid for the promotion of Cambodian culture among international students in Japan.

On behalf of CSAN community, I would like to welcome them and wish them success in the next coming challenges. In addition, we are ready to extend further helps for their daily lives, and at the same time, all of their seniors are ready to share experiences and learn new things from them too. During a simple, but joyful gathering that evening, we had a good chance to know one another in a friendly atmosphere.
