First guests of the year 2018: Professor Phalthy Hap and Ms. Sokhom Leang

On January 10, 2018, Cambodian Students Association in Nagoya (CSAN) had a great opportunity to welcome two guests from Cambodia. One is Professor Phalthy Hap, Director of Graduate Program of Royal University of Cambodia, and Ms. Sokhom Leang. Both of them are former students at Nagoya University as well.

We had a great talk during lunch with both of them and a delicious dinner together with Professor Phalthy Hap. Especially, Professor Phalthy has shared his study and working experiences with us up to 1 and a half hour at the CALE Forum. We were enjoying and learning a lot from his experiences in Nagoya and his current profession.

He gave us some precious advice mainly related to life as below:

  1. Please control yourself and manage your time effectively: time management is extremely important in life. Sleeping is good, but oversleeping is a waste. Usually, you can spend 6-8 hours sleep a day. Try to balance yourself with learning, communicating, and exploring the city. Being isolated from others is a failure in life.
  2. If you want to do something, do not wait, do it now. You are busy in studying here in Japan, but you will be much busier with your work when you go back to Cambodia. So do what you wish while you are here.
  3. Don’t be egoistic. You should do anything for yourself, your family and your society. At least do not destroy others or your society.
  4. Set your own philosophy and maintain it strictly. You may meet many types of people in the society including good and bad people. What you should do is not to have disputes with those who try to pull you down but to be away from them or be silent. Time may help you resolve the problem. You should not be too proud of yourself.
  5. Be ready to accept the reality in our society. Don’t be too much depressed about what happens badly to you. There will be so many obstacles, but you’ll get a great result if you keep doing good things gradually and patiently.

All members were touch with his talk and expressed our appreciation to Professor Phalthy from the bottom of our hearts. We really appreciate his self-management skill and peaceful mind in communication.

We wish both seniors with full of health and more success in life. We hope we will be able to follow your footprints and at least be successful like you.
