Abstract
After the first general election in 1993, Cambodia has adopted a new constitution that helped to identify the nation a constitutional monarchy. Besides the symbolism of monarchy and the popular sovereignty, Cambodia adapted the separation of powers between the legislative, executive and judicial branches. Moreover, the new government system has been regarded as parliamentary because the National Assembly approved a ‘vote of confidence’ to form the new government.
